You think your are great genius, creative and unique until you GOOGLE! That’s is the story behind ‘blooks‘. I was thinking about this idea of how to call a book written in blog format and I came up with this brilliant and original idea, or so I thought it was.
Before I could finally shout Eureka! I decide to Google the name I had just coined. There it was, someone else’s had claimed it first, curse the internet, it made difficult to claim authorship of anything, heck!
But hey, listen to this… I was wandering through many of the blogs I normally read, I found an interesting hot authorship argument between two bloggers. In the bright corner, a guy called Rahit Bhargava from Ogilvy, who writes the blog Influential Marketing, (great blog to read!), in the dark corner some one going by the name of Julie Gabriel who according to Rahit, pinched his idea in the first place without crediting it appropriately. I must admit, reading the post through to the end plus all the 22 comments (to the time of writing this post) she is in the wrong! (To read Rahit’s original post click the link ‘The Right And Wrong Way to Steal My Stuff’)
I’ve have been seriously pondering even before seeing the post above… How much of what goes on in marketing, business or social media blogs are really well thought through, researched, intelligent and original stuff? In the other hand, how much are subtle or even blatant copy and paste from someone else’s? Who are the daddies and who are the copycats, plagiarisers, piggy backers when it come to blog posts?
For all that matters, please remember Mr. Morrissey’s words in ‘Cemetry gates’: “If you must write prose/poems the words you use should be your own, don’t plagiarise or take “on loan”. But if you have to, please give them due credit or you will be found out, no doubt!
Now back to the ‘Blook’ idea, it’s great to see a great number of books being written in a blog format and being publish on-line for free in as an e-book people can download.
